Challenge Earrings and a lot of bookmarks

Posted in beads, challenges, earrings, jewellery with tags , , , , , , , , on January 29, 2009 by thecrimsonmoon

Well my resolution of making a card for every beady piece I create hasn’t lasted the month! I’ve been busy working on some bead tutorials and that’s been taking up most of my spare time. Here’s a peek at what I’ve been up to, hopefully some cards will appear very soon!

These earrings were made for a challenge on UK Beaders, where the theme is A Novel Idea. You have to base your piece on the title of a novel which I thought would be fairly easy but hmm…let’s just say…the books on my shelf…serial killers…horror…thrillers…not exactly jewellery inspiring titles on any of them! Thank goodness for Anne Rice’s “Blood & Gold” which was something I could work with.

I’ve also been busy making bookmarks using my beaded beads. These are available on my website and on Etsy,  Misi, Folksy and Coriandr as well as my Beaded Bead tutorial!

3 in 1 challenge card and beads galore

Posted in beads, cards, challenges, earrings with tags , , , , , , on January 22, 2009 by thecrimsonmoon

I haven’t a chance for much cardmaking this week – been spending far too much time with the beads I’m afraid! Using the yummy Cupcake papers that were a gift from my lovely friend Sue, the sketch is this week’s Mojo Monday. It also uses stamped hearts (free with a mag) for The Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge and three different shapes (rectangles, circles and hearts) for Papertake Weekly. No sentiment, I thought it would make a pretty cheer-you-up card for any occasion!

These earrings are made from real Garnet chips. I called them Pomegranate because the smooth tumbled chips reminded me of the little seeds you get in the fruit. In fact when I looked up the spelling of it, I discovered that the two words are related! A bit of useless information for you there, but how weird! These should be on my website later on today.

And here’s what else has been keeping me busy this week, I’ve got addicted to these beaded beads! I’ve also been working out a tutorial for them, at the moment I’ve got some fellow beaders testing the instructions for me, so hopefully it should be ready for sale very soon.

Sketch and Stash challenge #1

Posted in beads, cards, challenges, necklaces with tags , , , , , , on January 10, 2009 by thecrimsonmoon

This card is for the brand new Sketch and Stash challenge! The new item on my card is the image, which I got recently in a lucky dip/grab bag from Third Coast Stamps in the USA and this is the first time I’ve used it. The paper is Pink Petticoat and I’ve just used some ribbon and flowers from my stash and of course a bit of glitter.

Here’s a pretty flower I made from Czech seed beads and Japanese Delicas. It’s quite large, 2″ wide from tip to tip and I thought it would look fab as a necklace. I enjoyed making it but have to admit it was a bit fiddly stitching the leaves together! It’s available on my website.

Two challenges in one

I’m really enjoying myself with these peyote beads and I’ve figured out how to make them even smaller! Once again I’ve made them into earrings, using Sterling Silver for this pair and teaming them with gorgeous metallic Swarovski crystals. They’ll be available on my website shortly.

This mini card is for two challenges -  Papertake Weekly Challenge where the theme is spots and dots and uses Di Hickman’s sketch. I’m not 100% happy with it to be honest, it was going well until I got the putting a flower on an found I didn’t have anything quite the right colour! In the end I went for this dotty Flora Doodles flower and a scroll cut on the Sidekick. But hey, it’s not too bad, or else it would be in the bin and I wouldn’t be showing it. The paper I think is Pink Petticoat.

Mojo Monday #68

Posted in beads, cards, challenges, earrings with tags , , , , , , , on January 7, 2009 by thecrimsonmoon

I seem to be in earring mode at the moment. I made these last night, I used gorgeous little blue/green artisan lampwork beads made by Rob Johnson and tiny metal saucer beads. They swing beautifully inside these hoops, I can’t believe I got the spacing right first time! These are available on my website.

I love the sketches on Poetic Artistry each Monday so I’m pleased to see Julee has set up a brand new Mojo Monday challenge blog! Here’s my card, using the gorgeous LOTV fairy stamp and backing paper that my fabulous friend Sue sent me for Christmas. Thanks Sue!
