Featured Shop – Hilltop Cloud

Lately I’ve been just a little bit obsessed with the idea of spinning my own yarn. It all started when I was making a treasury on Etsy and came across a ball of handspun yarn in Katie’s shop Hilltop Cloud which was just the right colour for the collection I was putting together (my treasury was featured the next day on the front UK page of Etsy, very exciting!). I thought of the bags of merino roving I’ve got stashed away (bought for making felt beads with) and wondered if I too could spin my own yarn. After watching a whole load of videos on YouTube I decided it was no good, I was going to have to dive in and buy myself a spindle! Remembering Katie’s shop, I added one to my basket and then had a look at what else she had on offer.

Based in rural mid-Wales, Hilltop Cloud is run by Katie Weston. One of the things I really like is that Katie sources all her fibres from British suppliers and even better, many of those fibres are from UK sheep.

She has a wonderful selection of handblended roving, batts and of course her lovely range of  handspun yarn. Here’s the Stormy Weather yarn that sparked my interest…

I adore the colour of this moutwatering Orange batt

Always a sucker for turquoise and teal, this Still Waters roving is just beautiful…

And Pretty In I could just eat…

In the end I went for one of the roving samplers because I just couldn’t choose and besides, I love a surprise. My order arrived yesterday and the selection I received was absolutely gorgeous! I can’t wait to have a go and if it’s not a complete disaster I’ll post the results here. Hell, if it is a disaster I’ll probably post it anyway!

Featured Shop – SoapDragon

I came across Soap Dragon  while browsing through the gorgeous array of soaps, lotions and lip balms you can buy from UK sellers on Etsy. What first drew me to this shop in particular were the gorgeous photos that just make all their products look so edible! On reading their profile I discovered that their soaps are completely handmade from raw materials. They are also beekeepers and many of the soaps include their own fresh honey. As you may have read on my blog from time to time, my father and brother are also beekeepers so I’m always pleased to hear of others keeping this ancient practice alive.

This gorgeous pack of four soap chunk samples is a great way to try out different scents…

I can’t think of anyone wouldn’t be delighted to receive this gorgeous gift box

And this plate of Celtic guest soaps looks good enough to eat…

I think I might just have to order some soaps for myself! ;)

Featured Shop – WendyElf

Welcome to the first in my Featured Shop posts, where I’m going to be sharing with you some divine handmade goodies from the Brit side of Etsy. There are around 7 million handmade items on www.etsy.com at any one time with only around 157,000 items (at the time of writing) from UK shops, so you can imagine how we can get lost in the crowd! While I do buy from sellers around the world, I much prefer to support UK sellers whenever I can.

The first shop I want to share with you is WendyElf. Based in London, WendyElf is filled with a wonderful collection of wood and felt delights. Here’s just a taste of what she makes…

This gorgeous Elven Ivy Leaf brooch caught my eye…

A heart is always adorable and I love the combination of wood and felt on this Queen of Hearts hanging ornament

And this felted owl on his wooden mount is just beautiful…

I also fell in love with a set of gorgeous heart shaped buttons but I’m afraid they were just so gorgeous I had to buy them! ;)
