See Ya!

I’ve been wanting to incorporate eyes into my work for such a long time but the prosthetic eyeballs that some beaders use are quite expensive, so I figured out a way to make my own using clear glass cabochons and printed irises. As you can ‘see’ it works extremely well! This was so much fun to make…I feel a whole new range of jewellery coming on… ; )

My Little Vampire Heart

I’ve been a huge fan of horror and vampire movies since I was little (thanks Mum and Dad for letting us kids stay up to watch Hammer Dracula movies until 1am!) so I was really excited to hear that they’d re-made an old favourite of mine, Fright Night. I have to admit that I think Colin Farrell playing Jerry the vampire and David Tennant playing Peter Vincent are both odd choices but I’m reserving judgement until I see the film for myself! I hope the new version will have both the scares and the darkly comic moments that the 1985 movie did.

So this, and my love of all things scary, inspired me to make this gothic style pendant, complete with dripping blood! I’ve embroidered it in stripes of shiny and matt black seed beads, ‘painting’ with the red beads as I went along, and it’s turned out exactly as I had envisioned. I finished it off very simply with a length of black thonging and added a tiny glass heart to the end of the chain.

If you love the dark side as much as I do, you can find my Vampire Heart pendant in my Etsy shop and on my website.

Treasure unearthed

While sorting out some of my bead stash the other day I found a little bag of pendants that I’d almost forgotten I had. I thought this red pewter pentacle would look nice with some linked Swarovski crystals and Czech glass beads in matching colours. Listening to an album by Finnish rock band H.I.M. while I was making this gave me its unusual name!

Available from my website and Etsy shop ; )

Dark Twist

Here’s a little something I made for myself. Although I don’t think ‘little’ is the right word to describe it, this is quite a chunky piece! The original project was designed by Cindy Cohn and can be found in Jewelry Designs with Art Glass Beads, a one-off magazine from the makers of Bead & Button.

For my version I’ve replaced the art glass bead with a lava bead lentil and used my favourite black & grey colour scheme for the Cellini spiral. I finished it off with lengths of faux suede thonging and black chain. I tried to inject lots of different textures and bead finishes into this piece and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’m going to enjoy wearing this : )

Helena bracelet

A friend saw my favourite Tim Burton-inspired bracelet the other day and wanted one just like it – so here it is! Made from lashings of glass and acrylic beads with black and white polymer clay slices that I made myself. I love the original and wear it all the time.

I’ve also given my website a huge makeover – pop along and let me know what you think!

Morbid Thoughts

Another piece of jewellery for my Goth collection, I love the skeleton on this solid pewter pendant just ‘chillin’ out! I used beautiful sparkly jet black fire polished crystals with silver plated beads and a hook clasp. This definitely isn’t one for the faint of heart!
