Playing With Colours

These Corona beads have proven to be very addictive and I’ve found many new combinations to try! The best thing about them is that they’re quick to make and use regular beads that most of us beaders already have in our stash. I don’t know about you but, there’s nothing worse than being eager to start a new project from a magazine, book or tutorial only to find that one of the main ingredients is a hard to find bead or a vintage component. Each of these beads needs 20 Czech crystals (or Swarovski bicones or even pearls), a small amount of size 11 and size 8 seed beads and a needle & thread. The Corona Bead tutorial is available in my Etsy shop or if you don’t bead, you can find these ready made necklaces in the same place :)

Another project I’ve been working on recently has been this small crocheted blanket which I finally finished a few days ago. It’s one giant granny square and took me less than a  month to complete. It’s for my Nan so I chose lovely pastel shades: pinks, lilac, greens, blues, lemons, lilac and white. I was easy going to begin with but it got tricky towards the end as I started to run out of yarn! I’m fairly new to crochet and still learning how much yarn a project takes. As this was a project to use up my leftover yarn I didn’t want to buy more, so I ended up just doing one row for each colour. I’m really pleased with the finished blanket and my Nan loves it :)

Note that this isn’t the project I was working on some time ago. The squares eventually got turned into a poncho for my Mum but it was a bit of a disaster as I joined the squares together on the wrong side. This means that the lovely joining lines are on the inside while the outside shows messy little pips. I’m so embarassed by it that I’ll never show it to anyone! And poor Mum has been ordered to use it to keep her warm around the house but never to wear it beyond the front door!

Book Thongs & Treasuries

This week I’ve stocked my Etsy shop with more book thongs including some brand new colours! Most of them are mini bookmarks, designed especially to fit paperbacks or small diaries and journals up to 8″ in height but if you spot a colour you like and would prefer a regular size just give me a shout : ) From just £2.00 each they make great stocking fillers!

I’ve also been having fun making treasuries on Etsy, here’s a few I made this week…

Flowers In The Attic (Or In My Bead Stash!)

On a rare sunny afternoon last week I had a lovely time sitting in the garden making these glass flower book thongs. These were the first book thong designs that I ever made but for reasons known only to the bead gods I abandonded them in favour of the beadwoven variety.

Having a little rest from beadweaving I thought it would be fun to do some simple wire wrapping, so armed with a bag of thonging, pretty glass flowers and my trusty box of Swarovki crystals I set to work. I only intended to make two or three but before I knew it I’d made ten!

Two have already sold but the rest are on my website and I’m adding them daily to my Etsy shop. If you see a mini and would like one made into a regular size (or the other way around!) then please contact me : )

Bucket or Bouquet?

“The lady of the house” instantly came to mind once I’d made the mix for these beads so I just had to name it after the queen of snobbery, Hyacinth Bouquet from Keeping Up Appearances! The whole show was hilarious but my favourite part would always come at the end when she got her comeuppance and and often ended up being literally dragged through a hedge backwards and looking like the family she despaired of. Personally I would much rather be like her sisters (except for the one with a Mercedes, sauna and room for a pony ) they were always having so much fun! ; )

Anyhow, back to the book thong. Lilacs, greens, blues and a touch of lemon make up the beaded beads and I’ve added violet Swarovski crystals and a length of lime thonging to finish it off. Available via my website and Etsy shop. Although this one is made for small books up to 8″ high, I can also make a regular size on request.

Lady of the Rings

Wow, has it really been 5 weeks since I last posted? Shame on me! But I have been really busy creating (as well as having a nasty virus) and pretty soon I’ll be sharing some very exciting news with you. But in the meantime I have lots of beady eye candy for you to look at.

I’ve added some new colourways to my range of book thongs. For now they’re made-to-order on my website and in my Etsy shop but I should have some ready made up very soon…

Hollywood

Majestic

Treasure

The past week or so I’ve been on a huge ring making binge, I just couldn’t seem to stop! They’re just so much fun to make and fairly quick once I’ve decided on my colours. I’ll be adding them all to my website tonight and in my Etsy shop over the next week…
